                                         Flat Knitting Machine Needles

  • Product Overview
  • Flat knitting machine needles are precision components used in V-bed flat knitting machines to produce shaped knitwear, collars, cuffs, and full-fashion garments. Unlike circular knitting needles, flat knitting needles operate on a straight or V-shaped needle bed, enabling the creation of complex stitch patterns, including cables, fair isle, intarsia, and jacquard.
  • Our flat knitting needles are manufactured from high-grade alloy steel with advanced vacuum heat treatment, delivering optimal hardness (60–64 HRC) and exceptional toughness. Available in a wide gauge range from 1.5G to 18G, our needles accommodate various yarn types—from coarse woollen yarns to fine cotton and synthetic blends. Precision-ground butt, hook, and latch geometries ensure smooth carriage movement, consistent stitch formation, and reduced machine vibration.
  • Compatible with all major flat knitting machine brands including Stoll, Shima Seiki, Protti, Cixing, Steiger, Universal, and Jumberca, brother , silver reed and all Chinese brand flat knitting machine.
  • Our needles are ideal for producing sweaters, scarves, hosiery, and technical textiles. Customised specifications and surface coatings (e.g., chrome plating, nitriding) are available upon request.

          1. Technical Highlights

  • Optimised Butt Geometry – Precision-ground butts ensure smooth interaction with the carriage cams, reducing wear and extending both needle and machine life.
  • Advanced Heat Treatment – Vacuum hardening and tempering deliver superior hardness (≥ 60 HRC) with excellent toughness to withstand high-speed reciprocating motion.
  • Mirror-Finish Polishing – Our advanced polishing system delivers a mirror-like finish on the needle shank, while ensuring that the latch remains completely undamaged throughout the process – reducing friction, yarn abrasion, and latch bounce.
  • Dimensional Precision – Manufactured to tight tolerances (±0.01mm) for perfect compatibility with needle beds, sinkers, and cams.
  • Latch Design Optimisation – Available with standard latches or high-speed lightweight latches to suit different knitting speeds and yarn types.

          2. Technical Specifications

  • Needle Types:Latch needles, transfer needles
  • Gauge Range:1.5G – 18G (custom gauges available upon request)

         3. Performance Advantages

               Benefit                   Value to Customer

  • Extended Service Life: Proven durability through rigorous fatigue and wear testing
  • Consistent Loop Quality: Precision-ground geometry ensures uniform stitch formation and fabric appearance
  • High-Speed Stability: Maintains precision at machine speeds up to 1.2m/s
  • Reduced Yarn Breakage: Optimised hook and latch geometry minimizes yarn stress and fuzz generation
  • Low Friction: Mirror-polished shank reduces friction with needle beds, lowering energy consumption
  • Interchangeable Compatibility: Matches original OEM specifications for seamless replacement

          4. Selection Guide

  • To assist customers in selecting the right flat knitting needle for their      specific application

  • Consideration         Recommendation
  • Machine Brand & Model: Provide your machine type and model for precise matching
  • Gauge: Lower gauge (1.5G–10G) for coarse/chunky yarns; higher gauge (12G–18G) for fine/fingering yarns
  • Needle Type: Standard latch needles for basic knitting; transfer needles for shaping/cables;
  • Yarn Type & Count: Coarse/spun yarns → larger hooks; fine/smooth yarns → finer hooks
  • Fabric Structure: Plain jersey, rib, cables, intarsia, jacquard, full-fashion shaping
  • Knitting Speed: Standard latches for normal speeds; lightweight latches for high-speed operation

          5. How Flat Knitting Needles Work – Operating Principle

  • Flat knitting needles operate on a reciprocating carriage system with two needle beds (front and rear) arranged in an inverted V shape:
  • Yarn Feeding – The carriage traverses across the needle beds, feeding yarn to the needles through a yarn carrier.
  • Knitting Action – As the carriage moves, the cams guide the needle butts, causing the needles to move forward and backward.
  • Loop Formation – The needle hook catches the new yarn while the latch opens to release the old loop, forming a new stitch.
  • Stitch Transfer (Optional) – On transfer needles, a movable transfer spring opens to receive a loop from the opposite bed, enabling shaping and complex patterns.
  • Stitch Knock-Off – The old loop is pushed off the needle hook, completing the stitch.
  • This mechanism enables the production of fully shaped garments directly on the machine, minimising post-knitting cutting and sewing.

           6. Quality Control & Certifications

  • Incoming Material Inspection – Certified alloy steel with full traceability and mill test reports
  • In-Process Monitoring – Dimensional and hardness checks at each production stage
  • Final Testing – 100% visual inspection and functional sampling on test machines
  • Certifications – ISO 9001:2015 compliant manufacturing; CE marking available upon request

          7. Services & Support

FAQ – Flat Knitting Machine Needles

Please reach us at longtex@qq.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

A: Flat knitting needles operate on a straight V-bed system and are used for shaped garments like sweaters. Circular knitting needles operate on a cylindrical bed and are used for tubular fabrics like T-shirts. Flat knitting enables shaping, intarsia, and full-fashion production, while circular knitting is faster for continuous fabrics

A: The gauge matches your machine's needle bed. Count the number of needles per inch on your needle bed. Lower gauges (1.5G–10G) are for coarse yarns; higher gauges (12G–18G) are for fine yarns.

A: A latch needle is used for standard knitting, forming loops. A transfer needle has a movable transfer spring that can relocate loops to the opposite needle bed, enabling shaping and complex patterns like cables.

A: Not recommended. Even with the same gauge, variations in length, butt angle, and latch design can cause knitting defects and accelerated wear. Always use a consistent matched set from a single supplier.

A: - Maintain proper lubrication according to machine manufacturer recommendations.

    • Keep needle beds clean and free of dust, yarn debris, and oil residue.
    • Replace worn or bent needles immediately.
    • Implement a preventative replacement schedule every 8–12 months depending on production volume.
    • Use recommended yarn tension and avoid overloading needles.

A: Common causes: worn cams, incorrect yarn tension, insufficient lubrication, foreign objects, or needle fatigue. Solutions: inspect and replace worn machine parts, adjust tension, maintain regular lubrication, clean needle beds regularly, and implement a preventative replacement schedule.

A: Yes. We offer needles precisely matched to Stoll, Shima Seiki, Protti, Cixing, Steiger, Universal, and other major flat knitting machine brands. Please provide your machine model and gauge for accurate matching.

A: Yes. We provide OEM and custom design services for special applications, including modified butt angles, custom hook shapes, and non-standard gauges. Submit your specifications or send some pieces samples needle for evaluation.

    A: Follow these steps:

    1. Clean the needle bed thoroughly before installation.
    2. Inspect each needle for visible damage or deformation.
    3. Orient needles with the butt facing the correct direction (refer to machine manual).
    4. Insert needles gently – do not force; check for smooth sliding in the bed.
    5. Run the machine at low speed for the first 30 minutes to verify knitting action before full-speed production.

A: To request a quotation or sample:

    1. Provide your machine brand, model, and gauge (or send us sample needles).
    2. Specify your target yarn type and fabric requirements.
    3. Indicate quantity and preferred packing.
    4. Contact our sales team via the inquiry form, email, or phone. We will respond within 24 hours.
